June was designated Dairy month in Wisconsin back in 1937. The Wisconsin Dairy industry contributes more that $43.4 billion into the states economy, that is something to celebrate for sure.
When I was a little girl we could not wait for June to roll around as we knew we could visit our local bank everyday in the month of June and get a nice cool glass of Wisconsin milk. You could choose from Chocolate or Vanilla. I of course preferred a blend of both.
There are many events happening around the state this June and the best way to check them all out is to go to the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Boards site called “Dairy Days of Summer” http://www.dairydaysofsummer.com/events.html On that site you can see all the festivals and all the farm breakfasts that will occur for the entire state of Wisconsin in the month of June. It’s a great resource.
One of the great kick off events I would like to mention is Cows on the Concourse Saturday, June 6th. This all takes place on the square in Madison. Stop in to pet the cows, enjoy live music, eat some great food and as always there will be plenty of fun and games for the whole family. It also coincides with the Dane County Farmers Market. One of the best in the country!
Another great fest to check out is Beer, Bacon and Cheese Fest June 13-15 in new Glarus WI. It’s also Polka Fest weekend so you get two bangs for your buck! If you haven’t been to this quint little Swiss themed town in South Western Wisconsin you need to get there. It truly is a great destination to hit this summer. Check it out at http://swisstown.com/festivals-2015/
EAT CHEESE CURDS! The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board has also just announced that their www.eatcurds.com is back up and running. This is your go to site for where to find the freshest and nearest Wiscsonin Cheese Curds. A picnic favorite to be shared for sure this summer.
So get on your Cheesehead hat and get out there and enjoy June Dairy month in Wisconsin!
